“IN JAIL WAS FOR SURE MY MOMENT. YOU ALWAYS HEAR GOD’S NOT GOING TO PUT YOU THROUGH ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN’T HANDLE. BULL CRAP. HE PUT ME THROUGH EVERYTHING I COULDN’T HANDLE. BUT IT WAS SO I WOULD TURN TO HIM.”

I was in and out of jail with my last arrest landing me behind bars for a year. During my jail sentence, I began to spend time in the Bible and pray with other people, and I realized that I needed something different, a better way. I also began to see how God was working around me and in other people’s lives. I started having conversations with Him and He started changing my heart. The want and desire to use was gone and I was walking a truth that I would never have accepted unless in and through Christ Jesus.

I was in trouble on a regular basis and when I wasn’t I was just looking for trouble. I was hooked on drugs so no matter when I would escape for periods of time, the drugs still had a hold on me. This lifestyle led me to jail and a constant struggle with my family and loved ones where I didn’t trust them and they didn’t trust me. All I was looking for was my next high to escape. The hole of sin was so deep that I couldn’t see my way out. My relationship with my wife and children had deteriorated beyond what I could imagine.

I didn’t like people so I didn’t trust anyone. I became broken, miserable, and just flat out not talking to God. I started using cocaine with the pills. I was In and out of jail with a lot of felonies and charges. I lost my grandma then my mother and basically lost it. Found myself looking for a place to go, came to the mission, and stayed in overnight for over a year filled with hate.
