Giving thanks
I have had a passion for women’s ministry and helping others for years. When God called me to do it full-time, I made excuses: I wasn’t good enough; I didn’t know enough Bible; I was too shy… The excuses of why I couldn’t do it were endless!
I let fear and the enemy control me for many years. Let’s just say, when God wants you to do something and you are disobedient, He will remove you from what is keeping your focus off Him. After going through some major life lessons and some refining from God, I finally submitted to Him, and God placed me here at the Downtown Rescue Mission. I have no doubt that this is where God wants me to be right now.
My heart is to help other women. Here, I get to help them find permanent housing and resources to get them back on their feet. I also get to share Jesus without fear. I want the ladies here to know that they are seen and that God has a plan for each of them and He loves them. I hope the ladies know that I care and that everything I do is to keep them safe.
My position here is not about me; it’s about doing God’s will and loving His people. It’s about showing them Christ in everything I do to lead them to Him. Tennille, Director of Women’s Emergency Services
GIVING THANKS AMIDST HOMELESSNESS
MARTHA: “I’m thankful for the lady who took my picture (our Volunteer Coordinator) and for the people here who are helping me.”
MONTOYA: “I’m glad that God has brought me to a place of understanding and being around like people.”
GLORIA: “I’m thankful for this place because it is the only place I know of where you can come and get a hug when you need it and are in a bad place. They give you food and shelter here for free and give you an opportunity to better yourself. I’m thankful for God.”
MARCELLA: I’m thankful to Huntsville Downtown Mission for all the support I have had for the four months I have been here. Never had to experience being homeless before, this has been a spiritual time for me and met many nice people that I would have never met. Pray for us all.”
