TRANSITIONAL SERVICES

AssitanceIt is important for people who come to the Mission to know that they will be taken care of after successful completion of our recovery program. We at the Downtown Rescue Mission offer program graduates several transitional services to help them get acclimated with life outside of the Mission.

The DRM assists graduates in finding housing, provides household items such as small appliances, cookware, furniture and groceries and further aides in their employment search. We use various agencies to help our graduates receive the lowest rent payments available. Our Bargain Centers help provide everything from cookware to furniture to other household items for free. Thanks to our ministry directors, our graduates also have assistance in finding employment. We help them create resumes, prepare for interviews and provide them with the clothes they will need to look professional.

Our goal is to see every graduate of ours move back out into society and live a successful life in Christ. Below is the story of Mrs. Geirs, a former resident of ours who wrote to us about our transitional services.

Mary“My name is Mary Giers. I would like to thank God for the Downtown Rescue Mission for all they have done and continue to do for my family and I. After years of doing drugs, I lost my children to DHR. Because of the Downtown Rescue Mission and their disciple program, I am a new creature in Christ. Not only do I have a job, but they helped me get into permanent housing after I completed the program. They continue to help me on a monthly basis to maintain my independence. When times are hard, I know that I don’t have to do drugs. It feels good to know if I need help, I can call and they are willing to help me with food, clothing or just listen to me. Mrs. Denise teaches us to know that we are children of God and shows us how to love ourselves as He loves us! It’s not easy being a single mom. Thank you, Downtown Rescue Mission. Again, a special thanks to Denise Jones who goes above and beyond. Thank you for just listening. Thank you for still being there for us even after we are gone from the Mission! We love you!”
